Synopsis
Designer, researcher of light and perception
Sabine Marcelis is a Dutch designer whose work explores the interplay between light, color and material. Working from her studio in Rotterdam, she creates objects, installations and spatial interventions that blur the line between art and design. Her pieces are immersive experiences, where pure forms meet unexpected visual effects born from experimentation.
Born in the Netherlands and educated at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Marcelis quickly distinguished herself through her unique sensibility for materials and processes. Since founding her studio, she has collaborated with galleries, brands and institutions worldwide, while developing her own independent projects. Today, she is recognized as one of the leading voices of contemporary collectible design.
For Sabine Marcelis, design is not about function but about sensation. Each piece is a study in perception, revealing how light and material can transform the way we see and feel.
Light as material: light is treated not as a tool, but as a substance in itself.
Geometry and purity: simple, refined forms allow materiality and effect to take center stage.
From object to experience: every work is designed to immerse, surprise and move.
Marcelis works across media and scale, from furniture and lighting to large-scale architectural commissions. She is renowned for her mastery of resin, glass and reflective surfaces, which she manipulates to produce gradients, transparency, and luminous depth. By combining research, technology and craft, she turns industrial processes into poetic encounters.
The following pieces by Sabine Marcelis are available exclusively through Soleille Gallery. Each embodies her signature approach to light, form and material.
